O-MEGASTEEL is a proprietary steel alloy developed by OMEGA, known for its superior hardness, strength, corrosion resistance, and brighter white color compared to traditional stainless steels like 316L. Produced using a Pressure Electro Slag Remelting (PESR) process, this nickel-free alloy offers increased hypoallergenic properties and is used in OMEGA's Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep dive watch collection.
Key Characteristics of O-MEGASTEEL
  • Enhanced Hardness and Strength: It is 40-50% harder and offers approximately twice the yield strength of conventional steel alloys.
  • Brighter and Whiter Color: The unique composition results in a visually whiter and more lustrous appearance.
    • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Its unique composition delivers exceptional resistance to corrosion, contributing to a longer-lasting aesthetic.
    • Nickel-Free and Hypoallergenic: O-MEGASTEEL is free from nickel, making it a suitable option for individuals with nickel allergies.
    • Non-Ferromagnetic: The alloy is not magnetic.

Production Process
O-MEGASTEEL is created through an ingenious Pressure Electro Slag Remelting (PESR) process. This method results in a material of high purity, which allows for a superior polish and an incomparable shine.
Applications
  • OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep: O-MEGASTEEL is a key material for this high-performance dive watch, which can withstand extreme depths of 6,000 meters.
