For sale is my “Tritinova” gloss-dial Rolex GMT Master ref. 16700 Pepsi circa 1997-98. One of the last of the original GMT Master line. Comes as a full set, including:
- 1997 dated U3XXXXX serial GMT Master 16700 Pepsi watch with gloss dial
- Internal box and liner
- External box with serial and reference sticker attached
- 1997 dated booklets
- Punched and Serialized Papers (sale in 1998)
- Calendar card for 1998-1999
- Rolex guarantee booklet
- Serialized hangtag & chronometer tag
- Original purchase receipts
The watch is in very good used condition, showing some general scratches and wear but no mistreatment. Original reference 78790 brushed bracelet with 501 B end links. Has 11 links (4 are removable). Retains its worn green Rolex 16700 hologram sticker to the case-back. Pepsi bezel functions as it should and is very nice condition. Lugs are strong, as indicated in the photos, and the clasp (U2 dated circa 1998) snaps down tightly with double-lock function. The Coronet to the reverse of the clasp is in great shape.
The “Tritinova” dials were fashioned in the very brief period (typically Rolex U serial range) when Rolex was transitioning from Tritium to Luminova. The dials were pre-stamped “SWISS – T<25” for tritium, however they had Luminova indices and hands applied during manufacture. Plenty of articles regarding these models and dial transitions available online.
I’m unaware of extended service history, however it runs well, and I’ve taken a picture while on a Timegrapher for reference. Also included a UV shot of Luminova. Asking $16,000 shipped for the set. Prefer F2F in London, ON or possibly Toronto on weekends. Have 45+ photos including natural light available at request. Cheers, and thanks for viewing.
