For sale is my 1956 Enicar Sherpas----Yes, Sherpas, not Sherpa.

Asking $365cad paid via EMT, which includes shipping within Canada.
It comes on a like-new Martu Leather Suede strap that cost me ~$60-- I will accept $350 if someone wants me to throw it on a cheaper leather strap instead.
Summary:
This watch was serviced in 2015 and currently keeps fantastic time.
This watch is extremely rare as Enicar only used the name "Sherpas" for a portion of 1956 before dropping the "-S" and then using the name "Sherpa". Interestingly enough, this EXACT watch shows up in the Enicar Sherpa Collectors guide that was published only 4 months ago. You can see the watch and some details here: https://thespringbar.com/blogs/guides/enicar-sherpa-collectors-guide-part-1-single-crown-models
More Fun Details:
According to an Enicar 1957 advertisement, in May 1956 the Swiss Expedition climbed Mount Everest (29002 ft.) as the second party to reach this highest world peak and also the Lhotse (27778 ft.) as the first party to ever reach this mountain top. The entire world saluted the outstanding success of this expedition and their outstanding accomplishment within the short period of 6 days.
The Enicar Ultrasonic “Sherpas” used during the expedition proved accurate and reliable timepieces despite the effects of cold, snow, ice and water. They truly deserved the name “Sherpas”, faithful and relentless as a Sherpa once again demonstrating to all the world the tremendous technical advances and achievements by Enicar, one of the world’s leading and largest watch manufacturers.
Sportsman, Pilots, Naval Personnel, members of the Armed Forces, men in all walks of life, whenever accuracy counts – don’t take chances – rely on the timepiece that withstood the world’s worst climatic conditions. The watch that accompanied those famous mountaineers who climbed Mount Everest – the Enicar Ultrasonic “Sherpas” the rotor selfwinding watch with the special radium dial and truly waterproof case. (The Sherpas model watch pictured in the aforementioned ad has a black dial resembling the Seapearl 600 dive watch)
There were several Enicar 1957 and 1958 advertisements for light faced sport style Sherpas models (that were made in 1956) initially followed by light faced sport style Sherpa models. These ads referenced the famous Enicar reinforced Seapearl 100% waterproof case. The most noted Sherpas model ad was associated with the 50 day voyage of the Mayflower II starting April 20, 1957 from the UK to the USA with a Sherpas Automatic attached to the ship’s rudder. Another Sherpas model ad was associated with the Ultrasonic cleaning/oiling process. Later Sherpa model ads included endorsements by leading sportsmen like race-car driver Sterling Moss, world champion motorcycle racer Geoff Duke and tennis star Ken Roswell.
This early Sherpas model watch is in good condition as pictured. It has a champagne color face, markers and hands with a red triangle on the second hand. The face is marked Enicar on top of the Saturn logo, Ultrasonic, Sherpas, Incabloc, 21 Jewels, Swiss. The crystal is clear with no noticeable marks. Inside the machined case back is marked Enicar Watch Co. EPSA - STOP 1-56. The case back is marked with the cloverleaf pattern with the 0 – 1 case opening crown alignment marks. Inside the pattern is marked Antimagnetic Incabloc 100/61-10aSN Stainless Steel Waterproof Brevet 98243 Made and Cased in Switzerland Swiss. The “100/61” case back code signifies the case type with the “10” for the AR1010 movement, “a” for Stainless Steel, “S” for Sweep Second Hand and “N” for the EPSA reinforced Seapearl 100% waterproof bayonet case. The AR1010 manual wind movement is very clean and in good working condition. It is marked Enicar Watch Co. Swiss 21 Twentyone Jewels. This movement was not intended for the US market as it lacks the EZR Swiss export code. The crown is unmarked. The case measures 34.44mm across, 36.94mm with the crown, and 43.58mm lug end to end. It wears significantly larger than a vintage 36mm Seamaster or Datejust considering the case/lug design.
This Sherpas watch is very interesting in that it predates the May 1956 expedition by 4 months. Sport style light faced Sherpas model watches are very rare. It has the identical style case and "N' code case back markings as the 1956 Enicar Healthways 100 Fathom or Seapearl 600 model dive watches that would have been used during that period. The movement is very clean with no indication of any moisture so it likely had a sealed case back since it left the factory. Enicar registered the name Sherpa to replace Sherpas on November 6, 1956.
