Today I’m offering up one of my favourite versions of the Speedmaster. The “First Ω In Space” (FOIS) caught my attention when I first started collecting watches, owing to its slightly smaller 40mm sizing compared to the 42mm professional.
The FOIS was fashioned after Wally Schirras personal watch he wore on the Sigma 7 mission, the beloved CK2998, which predates the Moonwatch by nearly half a decade.
It strikes the perfect balance between the moonwatch, the rather hard to obtain CK2998 and the “Ed White”
The applied logo, angular lugs, sapphire crystal, Alpha handset and overall ease of wearability make this a watch that is easily dressed up or down, while simultaneously carrying a timeless vintage vibe.
These pieces have since been discontinued and don’t often carry any warranty, however this one does until 2025.
Powering the watch is the all too familiar Cal.1861 movement.
The watch comes as a full kit and shows minimal signs of wear to the caseback and rear lugs. There is also a small mark on the dial near the 1 o’clock marker mainly discernible when held up close at eye level.
As a bonus, I’ve included the Forstner Flatlink bracelet that comes with the elasticized links near the clasp. This bracelet elevates the vintage look of the watch even further and is true to the original speedy bracelets which boasted a similar system.
This example also comes with the original receipt from a local AD
