Newbie - Alberta - Buyer for staff.

Good afternoon.

I was pointed to this site/forum by a current member whom I assume has been here since the beginning. I was inquiring with him about a good watch to buy an employee as a thank you gift after 2 years as he unfortunately had to resign due to his wife getting sick.

I asked him for a recommendation in the $2500-$3000 range (I know brands but that's about it. I was looking at the TAG Aquaracer pro 200 chronograph at the higher budget and the or the solorgraph as I like the look of the blue face.

Looking to acquire something in JUly or early august before he takes his wife on a trip. I am in Edmonton, and open to brands, look ect. He is not a huge guy so I think 40mm or smaller would be best. Top budget is $3500.....maybe a tiny bit more.

Not sure. I think I have seen him in a G shock he got as part of a deal with his unit and I know his daily is a pretty fancy garmin. I just think watches are a quality gift.

I’ve bought someone (a good friend through business) a watch as a gift before. Once.

It was a timeless, stainless Movado.

…Never saw him wear it once, ever. I did include a gift receipt, he might’ve exchanged it for something more to his liking? Might’ve just tossed it in a drawer? Pawned it?

No clue.

It was a teaching moment for me because, though I completely love this hobby and have a few pieces, to some people it’s fluff and a waste.

If your friend feels the latter, well for me it didn’t justify the expense or the heart I put into it.

I was in a sorta similar position and we took our final cost move back to Edmonton because we had family here but it increased our expenses by over 30%, so I vote cash and a Timex.

This, get a nice Timex, engrave the case back, get a card off Amazon, and give him the remaining $$$$ in cash, in a few years you may find that he’ll come back remembering how you helped.

Thank you for the time response. After chatting to his wife he is quite the tech nerd and has been eyeing a Garmin Tactical thing but is out of his price so he will apparently lose his mind and I get to almost half my budget (which I will make up to him in another way.

Oh. about the cash comment. Fortunately his wife was very successful and cash is not a concern for them. Thankfully at least it allows them to focus on enjoying time together and focus on health.
